A straight flush in poker is the highest-ranking hand in the game. It comprises of five cards of the same suit, compared to two or more of the other suits. In stud poker, it occurs approximately once in every 255 hands. However, it is possible to get a straight flush even if the first three cards in your hand are not the same suit.
If you have a high pair of aces and two or more suited cards, your odds of getting a straight flush jump to 4.35% on the turn or river. However, it is better to start building your straight flush using two hole cards rather than a single one. Similarly, when using community cards, a straight flush hand consists of four or more of the same suit. Examples of such hands include KQJT9 (king-high straight flush), JT987 (jack-high straight flush), 98765 (nine-high straight flush), and A2345 (five-high straight flush).
A straight flush is the best possible hand in poker, followed by a royal flush. These hands are extremely rare to get in any variant. While they are among the strongest poker hands, they are also the most difficult to make. In addition to being hard to get, a straight flush is rare in most poker games.
